"The tramway at the conquest of the world"

Which is the reality of this market? And its future?

Is there a real French specificity, and which one?

Which are the particularities of each big tramway market?

Some countries never gave it up. Others, such as the USA or France reconsider it twenty years ago. Today the tramway interests an increasing number of countries. As a means of transport but also as a way to rethink the city. An approach for what the French have become specialists.

In July, the architect Thomas Richez has been chosen by New South Wales, in Australia, to think the tramway arrival in George Street, one of the main artery of Sidney. Recently, the RATP group, as well as Alstom, won a huge framework contract for the tramways in Algeria. In Middle-East, Dubai opened the way to the tramway after having been the pioneer of the automatic underground.In China, the common subsidiary of RATP and Transdev exploits the tramway of Shenyang, and the big French transport groups dream of thousands of kilometers of tramways to come. The first Citadis of Alstom destined to Rio arrived in Brazil in July and Jerôme Wallut, former boss of Alstom France now manage the group in North America, where one of his main challenge is the tram-train development.

Everywhere or almost in the world, the tramway is being promised a bright future. French are well positioned, with operators such as Transdev, Keolis or RATP Dev that align important and nice references. And Alstom sold hundreds if Citadis in the world.
